Responding to the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks

On April 21st, 2019 (Easter Sunday), three churches and three luxury hotels were targeted in a series of coordinated terrorist suicide bombings. 450 were injured and 258 people were killed, including at least 45 foreign nationals. Within two-hours of the blasts, Traveller Assist received a phone call from a worried family member who reported that her son and his wife were staying at the Shangri La Hotel and that she had not been able to contact them by phone. The couple were HNWI policy holders and the insurer made the quick decision to deploy two members of the Traveller Assist, Crisis Response Team. Within seven-hours, both had arrived in Colombo and immediately started assisting injured travellers. Within 72-hours, our team provided medical and travel assistance for over 100 travellers and assisted with the repatriation of mortal remains for four foreign nationals.
